The Pomona High School Instrumental Music Program is based on a system of vertical staffing and team teaching. The Pomona Band program has become recognized in Colorado and the country as a program Committed to Excellence. Current curriculum at Pomona High School includes marching band, two jazz bands, orchestra, symphonic band, two concert bands, percussion ensemble and color guard.
The Symphonic and Concert Bands have been the cornerstone of the success of the Pomona band program. They have been consistent recipients of superior ratings for the past 19 years. The Pomona Symphonic Band performed at the 2000 and 2003 CMEA Clinic and Conference. Clinicians for the Pomona Symphonic and Concert bands have included Tim Lautzenheiser, Allan McMurray, Ken Singleton, Richard Mayne, Richard Saucedo, Greg Bimm, Glen Adsit, Drew Shanefield, Alfred Watkins, Ray Cramer, Nate Holland, and Tim Salzman.
The Pomona Marching Band was named the Colorado Bandmasters Association 5A State Champion in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. The marching band has finished 1st or 2nd the past 14 years in CBA state competition and is the only band from Colorado to be a finalist at the Bands of America Grand Nationals. The 2002 Pomona Band finished second at the BOA St. Louis Regional Championship, winning high music in both prelims and finals and tying for high visual in finals. The Pomona Marching Band has performed in the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade (1996) in Pasadena, California and the Youth Music of the World London New Year's Parade and Celebration.
The Pomona Marching Band recently performed again at the Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1st, 2005.
The Pomona Winter Guard is a two time Winter Guard International Scholastic Open World Champion, 1994 and 1999. The Pomona Color Guard is currently under the direction of Ms. Nikolle Bookless.
The Pomona Percussion Ensemble is a two time Winter Guard International medalist in Scholastic Open Class, 1999 and 2000. The Pomona Percussion Ensemble is currently under the direction of Mr. Eric Ridenour, Mr.Greg Kitto and Mr. Dustin Arndt.
