New Student Account System Coming! Sign-up to Receive Student Account Info Via E-Mail

The band's student account tracking system is in the process of being updated from a manual spreadsheet format to a new web-based tansaction system. This change will make it much easier for parents and guardians to see the status of their student's account. The new system will send an eMail detailing any deposits, fundraising and withdrawals made to the account. The primary advantages of this system is that it stores all data on a computer that is backed up and maintained by the web service provider.
Accounts with last names J-Z have already been moved to the new system and it's hoped the A-I accounts will move this month.
To begin receiving your student account information via eMail, please send the following information to Mike Rady at mjrady@comcast.net
   1) guardian name (first, last, MI)
   2) student name (first, last)
   3) email address.
Once your request is received, Mike will set up your automated request. Althought the A-I information is not yet included in the new system, parents, students, guardians can still send the information and then you will be ready when those accounts are moved to the new system.
Thanks to Mike for developing this system!

ARBY'S NIGHT OUT FUNDRAISER

Arby's at 80th and Wadsworth is hosting a fundraiser for Pomona Band on Thursday night, Jan. 15th from 5pm to 8pm -- 20% of the proceeds will go to Pomona Band.  You must present a flyer when you order so that the band gets credit for the purchase.  They will be available in the band room beginning Jan. 12 or at the booster meeting on Jan. 13th.  Pick up flyers for your friend and neighbors!  See you there.

Welcome

An Award Winning Tradition

The Pomona High School Band Program - Ed Roush, Band Director

  • Colorado Bandmaster’s Association State Champions 11 Times
  • Three-time Colorado Music Educator’s Association Honor Band

The Pomona High School band program is recognized locally and nationally for its commitment to music excellence. From 1994 through 2005, the Pomona High School Marching Band was the Colorado Bandmaster's Association Class 5A State Champions 11 times. The students were also invited to march twice in both the world famous Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and the London New Year's Day Parade.

In addition, the Pomona Symphonic Band was named a Colorado Music Educator's Association (CMEA) Honor Band three times since 2000. Lastly, the Pomona Winter Guard and Percussion Ensemble were 2004 WGI World Finalists. The band program also includes a wind ensemble concert band, two jazz ensembles and an orchestra.

Tuba Fundraising Underway

Thanks to all who attended and participated in the recent Tuba Fundraising Breakfast held at Applebee's at 92nd and Wadsworth. The event raised $782 towards the Pomona Band's tuba fundraising effort. The band is looking to purchase up to six tubas to replace the old ones - some over 50 years old - currently being used. Tubas are very expensive instruments, with the cost for just one used tuba in good condition approximately $4,000. So, look for more upcoming tuba fundraisers.

Pomona Arts and Humanities Program (PAH)

“Where the arts and academic achievement meet.”

Pomona High School offers a unique program for students with creative talents and interests, who also want a demanding academic program. It is the Pomona Arts and Humanities (PAH) program, and many band students are members. Students select an artistic path - instrumental music, vocal music, visual arts, theater or a multi-path option – and then take core academic classes designed to promote a creative, hands-on, integrated approach to learning. Prior to graduation, students complete a capstone project demonstrating what they have learned in the PAH program.

The PAH program was developed based on research showing that on college entrance exams, students with an arts and humanities background out-performed students who did not take these types of classes. The research also showed the longer a student remained in an arts program, the better their results on college entrance exams.

For more information on the PAH program, click on the Music Programs menu, and look for PAH in the drop-down menu or click here.
