Air Academy Takes First at 20th Annual Pomona Marching Festival
The sights and sounds of great music set to amazing marching maneuvers, with a healthy helping of colorful flags and dance routines, was enjoyed by those who attended the 20th Annual Pomona Marching Festival, held Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the North Area Athletic Complex (NAAC) in Arvada.
Air Academy High School Marching Band (at right) from Colorado Springs took first place in the overall competition with their show titled “Shades of Cool.” They won the General Effect Caption Award and for the second consecutive year, placed first among the 4A schools.
Legacy High School from Broomfield was first runner-up with their show “Reflection,” and also earned the Visual Performance Caption Award, and for the second consecutive year took first place among the 5A schools.
The second runner-up was Loveland High School Marching Band, from Loveland, which performed its show titled “Pompeii.” Loveland received the Music Performance Caption Award, as well as second place among the 4A schools.
The all-day event showcased 25 of the top high school marching bands from all over Colorado and New Mexico. Each performed intricately choreographed and entertaining routines for a distinguished panel of national judges. All bands competed in a Preliminary Competition during the morning and afternoon, while the top 12 scoring bands advanced into Finals Competition that evening.
The Pomona High School band, an 11-time State Champion, entertained spectators with an exhibition performance at the conclusion of both the Preliminary and Finals competitions.
A brief summary of the results is below, while the score details are posted on the bottom of the Participant Application page. For more pictures from the event, go to "Pictures" under the “Pomona Fest” tab or click here. The event is sponsored by the Pomona High Band Music Booster organization.
