The Pomona Marching Band placed fourth at the State
Marching Band Championship held at Invesco Field in Denver, on Saturday evening, Oct. 25. The band scored 77.85 points in finals and 81.10 in the preliminary competition held earlier that day.

The 5A first place award went to Legacy High School, Broomfield; second to Rampart High School, Colorado Springs; and third place to Arapahoe High School, Littleton.
Besides Pomona, three other Jefferson County high schools participated in finals with Lakewood and Chatfield taking fifth and seventh place, respectively, among the 5A schools, and Green Mountain placing sixth among the 4A finalists.
The state 4A and 5A semi-finals were held Saturday morning at Adams County Five Star Stadium, with the top 14 schools from each category competing. Of those, the eight highest scoring 4 A and 5A bands were invited to compete at Invesco. Before the final awards were announced, spectators were treated to a rousing show performed by the University of Colorado's Golden Buffalo Marching Band.
The state championship was sponsored by the Colorado Bandmasters Association (CBA). For further details on scores, visit CBA's web site at www.coloradobandmasters.org. More photos from State and other events will be added to this site throughout the week so come back again.

An Award Winning Tradition
The Pomona High School Band Program - Ed Roush, Band Director
- Colorado Bandmaster’s Association State Champions 11 Times
- Three-time Colorado Music Educator’s Association Honor Band
The Pomona High School band program is recognized locally and nationally for its commitment to music excellence. From 1994 through 2005, the Pomona High School Marching Band was the Colorado Bandmaster's Association Class 5A State Champions 11 times. The students were also invited to march twice in both the world famous Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and the London New Year's Day Parade.
In addition, the Pomona Symphonic Band was named a Colorado Music Educator's Association (CMEA) Honor Band three times since 2000. Lastly, the Pomona Winter Guard and Percussion Ensemble were 2004 WGI World Finalists. The band program also includes a wind ensemble concert band, two jazz ensembles and an orchestra.
Pomona Arts and Humanities Program (PAH)
“Where the arts and academic achievement meet.”
Pomona High School offers a unique program for students with creative talents and interests, who also want a demanding academic program. It is the Pomona Arts and Humanities (PAH) program, and many band students are members. Students select an artistic path - instrumental music, vocal music, visual arts, theater or a multi-path option – and then take core academic classes designed to promote a creative, hands-on, integrated approach to learning. Prior to graduation, students complete a capstone project demonstrating what they have learned in the PAH program.
The PAH program was developed based on research showing that on college entrance exams, students with an arts and humanities background out-performed students who did not take these types of classes. The research also showed the longer a student remained in an arts program, the better their results on college entrance exams.
